NDIS Epilepsy & Seizure Management in Perth
Delivered by an AHPRA-registered Registered Nurse | Seizure management plans, rescue medication training, support worker competency
TrustCare provides NDIS-compliant epilepsy and seizure support for registered providers across Perth.
Seizure management is a HIDPA requiring an RN-developed seizure management plan and formal competency assessment before any support worker administers rescue medication or follows an emergency seizure protocol.
Epilepsy and Seizure Support as an NDIS HIDPA
Epilepsy and seizure support is a designated High Intensity Daily Personal Activity under NDIS Practice Standards Module 1. It applies to participants with epilepsy or seizure disorders where support workers may need to administer rescue medication or follow an emergency seizure response protocol.
What TrustCare Delivers
- Participant-specific seizure management plans — developed by our AHPRA-registered RN, aligned to the neurologist and treating team
- Seizure type documentation — recording each participant's seizure pattern, duration, frequency, and post-ictal profile
- Rescue medication training — midazolam (buccal, intranasal) and rectal diazepam administration training for support workers
- Emergency seizure response protocol — 000 triggers, recovery position, duration timing, documentation
- Status epilepticus recognition — training support workers to recognise and respond to prolonged seizures
- Support worker competency assessment — documented per worker per participant, with annual renewal
- Liaison with neurologist and GP — ensuring the NDIS seizure plan is consistent with the medical management plan
Rescue Medication — What Support Workers Need
For participants whose seizure management plans include rescue medication (midazolam, diazepam), support workers must receive:
- Participant-specific training from a qualified health practitioner (RN) in the specific medication and route of administration
- Documented competency assessment — they must demonstrate correct technique, not just attend a course
- A current, participant-specific seizure management plan specifying when rescue medication is administered
- Annual competency review, or earlier if the participant's seizure pattern changes or the worker has not administered the medication for more than 3 months
