NDIS Catheter Management in Perth
Delivered by an AHPRA-registered Registered Nurse | IDC, suprapubic catheter and urinary catheter care
TrustCare provides NDIS-compliant urinary catheter management for registered providers across Perth.
Urinary catheter support is a designated HIDPA requiring an RN-developed catheter care plan and formal competency assessment before any support worker assists with catheter management.
Urinary Catheter Support as an NDIS HIDPA
Urinary catheter management is a designated High Intensity Daily Personal Activity under NDIS Practice Standards Module 1. It applies to participants with indwelling catheters (IDC), intermittent (in-out) catheters (IMC), suprapubic catheters (SPC), or external catheters who require support with catheter care in community settings.
What TrustCare Delivers
- Participant-specific catheter care plans — NDIS-compliant, signed by our AHPRA-registered RN
- Indwelling catheter management — drainage bag management, hygiene, catheter securing
- Suprapubic catheter care — stoma site care, bag management, change scheduling
- Intermittent catheterisation training and support — technique instruction for participants performing self-catheterisation, and for delegated support workers
- Urinary tract infection (UTI) recognition — signs, documentation, escalation to GP or RN
- Blockage management — recognition of catheter blockage, escalation triggers
- Support worker training and competency assessment — documented per worker per participant
Key Clinical Risks
- Urinary tract infection — the most common complication; workers must recognise signs (cloudy/offensive urine, pain, fever) and escalate promptly
- Catheter blockage — can cause bladder distension, pain, and autonomic dysreflexia in SCI participants
- Trauma — incorrect technique can cause urethral injury; TrustCare's training covers safe catheter care technique
- Catheter bypassing — can indicate blockage, infection, or incorrect sizing; requires RN assessment
